What is Sorrow? This actually originated in a old chat I had many years ago with Weavermage back in 2003 if I remember correctly. Since then I saved the chat and use to show it to anyone who inquired what the thing I draw all the time, Sorrow (me), was. I been meaning to rework the chat into a complete essay of sorts and I finally got around to it thanks to motivation of wanting to show Shadowwolf and Missmonster... Anyways, Enjoy!

Sorrow isn't naturally as what you see them as; Sorrow is not a shape-shifting dragon like creature you know them as, their origins are beyond what the naked eye can see...
Sorrow is a single cell organism. How Sorrow came to existence is unknown, maybe some mutation... maybe a fluke of nature? Whatever the how, what we can assume is possibly that Sorrow came into existence the same way as how so many other single cell organism formed throughout time... except this instance... this fluke of nature... somehow this single cell organism had a mind. As with any mind, came intelligence, not the type of intelligence you are thinking of, not like complex human like intelligence, however, an innate intelligence in which this living organism became aware of itself and its surroundings. It was in this moment that Sorrow was born.
Sorrow in cellular form is able to excrete a special enzyme that breaks down any nearby organism, object, or whatever happens to be exposed to this enzyme on a molecular level by breaking their electron or chemical bonds. When this happens, Sorrow has the innate ability to change or rearrange these molecules into other molecules and elements via thousands of cilium, which covers Sorrows cell structure like fur. This ability does not mean Sorrow can magically create gold from H2O; however, rearranging chemical, biological, or certain elements into other similar elements yields the best success.
[Side note: Sorrow slightly resembles the shape of a Neuron of that in a humans brain; however is about a 1/8 the size.]
The most unique thing of all of Sorrow's innate abilities, which is common in most living cell organisms, is the ability to go through interphase and metaphase/mitosis. What makes this common natural process unique is utilizing their intelligence, Sorrow can actively trigger this cell reaction nearly at will and the result is an exact duplicate of them self. Sorrow has mastered the manipulation of surrounding molecules in such a way that Sorrow is also capable of creating duplicates of them self from "scratch" rather than mitosis.
[Side note: These two paragraphs above came later in time after the one below.]
As soon as Sorrow multiplied the very first time and a duplicate of them self came into existence, it became apparent that the two Sorrows were gifted with a new set of abilities and intelligence. Sorrow in this primal form, inherited an ability capable of instantly communicating with the duplicate cell(s) via synapses through which chemical and electrical signals are sent and received by the two. This was the crucial step into the biological computation that underlie perception and thought; each separate Sorrow began to share one single thinking "hive mind" and with working together in unison, the greatest gift that each new cell created, was what can be described as a greater intelligence or next step into evolution. Each new cell meant there was a new cell to process a separate set of information and with the hive mind connection to adjoining cells, soon what resembled a network or what we know as complex thinking, gave birth to a collective, which became what we know as a conscious.
Overtime with Sorrows intelligence growing, they essentially began to perform processes much as those of a multi-cellular organism as certain groups of cells began to perform separate tasks. This led to the birth of rationalization, deductive skills, and eventually imagination. Sorrow has multiplied to vast numbers that eventually the Sorrow you see, and the Sorrow that you know finally took shape and joined in the activities of what we can see with our eyes
Our world and lives.
[Side note: Sorrow in current form, is a community of trillions of cells living as one being. Sorrows collective intelligence is pretty much that as of a human being.]
Now focusing on Sorrow's current form, their shape shifting ability that we see is in reality a complex process executed via great communication and coordination between the cells that make up Sorrow and the manipulation of their surroundings. Each cell works together in perfect harmony to perform different task, no matter how daunting, they maintain a common objective; just the simple process of rearranging their position and order, what we see with our eyes is Sorrow starting to take on a new form and shape shifting into nearly any shape or form imaginable.
[Side note: If Sorrow wished to shift into something larger, Sorrow would have to consume"(break down) nearby elements (usually the ground) and either convert them into new cells and/or leech nutrients from these elements needed for mitosis. Moreover, to shift to something smaller, Sorrow just simply dumps off some of them self, and those cells, which are removed, are destroyed or die.]
These abilities of Sorrow are as easy and natural to them as breathing is to you and I. Sorrow has mastered shape and form so well, that when they are in their usual form, when you touch Sorrow, you feel like you are touching a real living and breathing being, you feel their softness, their warmth... you feel their life.
Sorrow has mastered the art of shape shifting so precisely, that they innately react to their surroundings; when the wind blows, the cells mimicking the appearance, shape and touch of fur, wave and flutter in the wind just as true and natural fur would.
Yep
Thats the gist of it... If it makes sense or not, I dont know
but Just Believe In Sorrow and Sorrow Will Believe In You.
So Epic!
